BYRON POLICE Chief Tim Sampey (left) received an American Police Hall of Fame Award, with a medal and lapel pin, during the Byron Village Council meeting on Monday, July 14.

The award recognized Sampey both for community service and for acts of valor as a result of his sustaining an injury during an altercation with an adult male during an arrest on March 25, 2007.

RETIREES - Marge Stanuszek (left) and Steve Simmons were thanked for their year’s of service as teachers at Morrice Area Schools during the Wednesday, July 9, Morrice Board of Education Meeting.

Stanuszek has been a teacher for 37.5 years serving at Morrice Elementary for the past 20 years. Simmons has been an elementary teacher for a total of 34 years, with the past two years being on the inactive list.

Spirit Expressions Dancers Compete in Florida

Spirit Expressions Studio of Dance’s Competition Team spent July 1 - 3 competing in Orlando, Florida. The National Competition hosted by Onstage New York was the last competition of the season for the six dancers and their two coaches. They danced their way to 10 trophies, including nine golds and a high silver. They also won a special judge’s award for being “Especially Fun.” The team was in Orlando thanks in part to a $200 scholarship that they won at the regional competition called the “Class Act Award.”... read more in the Perry Independent
